More instant payment options are in the cards!

The instant payments landscape is heating up, and Routable is keeping pace so you can, too! In addition to our easy-to-use options for FedNow and Real Time Payments, we're announcing support for pushing funds directly to debit cards - in seconds!

When you Create a Payable, you can now specify the type card. Since the overwhelming majority of pushes to debit cards are instantaneous and they only go slower when the receiving bank can't handle instant transactions, we expose only one delivery_method: card_instant. So, with card payments, your funds always have the zoomies!

You can also enable your payees to select a card payout when using the vendor_choice option. In the delivery_method_choices array inside type_details, you can now add card to give your payees the option to receive funds on a debit card. We'll securely collect their card details in our hosted UI, and the funds flow right away!

Collecting card PaymentMethods

A new card type has been added to PaymentMethods as well, but you'll note that card PaymentMethods cannot be created using the Create a Payment Method endpoint. This is to protect our clients from needing to obtain PCI certification. To use card as a payment type, either send the payee an invitation or create a vendor_choice Payable. Once a card has been collected as a PaymentMethod, you can send additional payments to it by passing its id in the pay_to_payment_method field of a card Create a Payable payload, just like any other PaymentMethod.

Currently, card payouts are available on MasterCard and Visa debit cards in the United States, paid out in US dollars. As we work to expand this brand-new feature, we'll be growing to support more cards, more places, and more currencies soon!
